EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND
Eric Miller joins the Benedict College football staff as wide receivers coach and assistant recruiting coordinator.
Miller comes to Benedct after serving one season at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga. During his year with the program, the offense finished ranked 12th in the country in total offense and sixth offensively in points per game. Miller was responsible for the development of 1st-team All-American Torenio Davis.
Prior to GMC, he served two years as wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator at Kell High School in Marietta, Ga. During his time, he was a part of two of the most potent offenses in school history. The 2018 team scored the third-most points in school history, and the 2017 team scored 375 points, an average over 34 points per game, which is second-best all-time.
Prior to that, Coach Miller served as the passing game coordinator for the Tucker Tigers, located just outside of Atlanta. Miller helped rejuvenate the Tiger program by helping them get back to the state championship game for the first time in three years (their third appearance in the last six).
He worked with the wide receivers, serving as passing game coordinator and directing the special teams. Typically a heavy run team, Miller and the Tigers were able to produce the first 1,000-yard receiver in the team’s storied history. All-State wideout Joshua Vann finished the season with 63 catches for over 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2016.
The Tucker Tigers special teams featured All-County kicker Adam Lippy, who was 6 for 7 on FG attempts in 2016, while connecting on 94 percent of PATs, and accumulating 77 points for his team. Meanwhile, Joshua Vann was 4th in the county with an average of over 38 yards per punt.
Before returning to Tucker High School, Coach Miller spent two seasons coaching on the Division I level, coaching on both sides of the ball for FCS and Big South member, Presbyterian College.
During his second season with the Blue Hose, Miller was in charge of molding a very young receiving corps, one that featured three freshmen.
Prior to that, he spent one season working with the defensive line. In 2014, Miller helped PC to a 6-5 record, the program’s first winning season since 2007 and its first-ever in the Big South. The defense shut down foes and led to Blue Hose ranked wins over No. 12 Furman and No. 22 Charleston Southern, and the team’s two road wins stand as the most since winning three in 2007.
Against FCS competition, PC finished with a 5-2 record and its only two losses came to FCS playoff teams Coastal Carolina and Liberty. PC’s defense set new school Division I records in nearly every category, including total offensive yards (4163), opponent points scored (270), opponent touchdowns (36) and opponent total offense per game (378.5 yards). Those records come in a season that saw the Blue Hose play three FBS teams and against FCS competition, PC allowed only 15.9 points and 310.0 total offensive yards per game. The Blue Hose also finished the season with the nation’s second-ranked red zone defense.
Before coaching in college, Coach Miller served his first stint with the Tucker program. In three seasons as an assistant at Tucker High School in Tucker, Ga., he worked with the defensive backs, wide receivers and special teams. He helped the Tigers to a cumulative 39-4 record, two undefeated regular seasons, two trips to the state championship game, including winning one in 2011. The 2013 squad also boasted a state-leading 32 interceptions and a DeKalb County-leading 39 turnovers. The 2011 team went undefeated for the first time in school history (15-0).
Coach Miller played wide receiver at Princeton and Georgia State before graduating from LaGrange College in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in business management. He joined LaGrange while returning home to help his family and helped the Panthers to a conference championship and its first and only playoff berth.
MY PHILOSOPHY
My Transformational Purpose Statement is: To demonstrate, empower, and inspire young men on their journey to AMP by pursuing joy, being enthusiastic, having integrity, and being resilient.
Now, what does that all mean? Well, it’s simple. The objective is to WINFOREVER. And how can we go about this? By doing things better than they have ever been done before!
Our purpose is to WIN- win big, win now, win forever! To WinForever, however, is not something that applies to just on field performance. It is a philosophy that transcends into all realms of life.
The world that we live in requires competent, confident, and purpose driven men, and our objective is to develop and groom young men to fit that mold. We must transform these young men into adults, who will be protectors and providers to their family; as well as contribute to society as a whole.
To WINFOREVER, the program as a whole must first adapt the philosophy of “Doing things better than they have ever been done before.” This phrase is not only motivational but inspirational, which is a CORE VALUE for the program. We can’t achieve the four core values or even hope to Win Forever until everyone within the organization can grasp and began to execute this philosophy.
This principle must extend out to all aspects and every phase of the program from the play calling in an actual game, to player performance during the off-season, to what’s done in the classroom, to the total organizational structure of the program.
WIN FOREVER
So, to pull everything back together. The objective is to WINFOREVER. Our vision is to WINFOREVER. That’s what we want to obtain as a program: create and establish an environment where people will/can Attain their Maximum Potential (henceforth know as AMP). This program will produce the ultimate competitor: one who will work to become the most complete athlete possible, on the field and in the classroom. Someone who can establish leadership off the field whether it’s around campus or amongst peers.
We want to have a program that not only can make the student body proud but bring a whole community together in a way in which only sport can.
Which is the reason for creating CEM, LLC. Not only is it a personal brand. It’s a platform through which I can give back and pour into the community the lessons and concepts that I have learned during my time coaching.
Our objective as a football program is to instill a set of CORE VALUES into the young men that pass through the program. In order to do so we must establish a culture. To properly establish a culture, one must first define it. For us, CULTURE is defined as- THEE only acceptable way to behave and perform.
Everything we do evolves around us trying to “do something better than it has ever been done before.” To accomplish this there are 4 CORE VALUES that make up the culture we want to have. Now, there are additional rules and concepts, as well as expectations that will guide and outline each individual’s role within the program. But before one can truly and effectively execute those standards, they must first accept the 4 core values by which we will preside:
